The museums, one of the cultural buildings, are among the most prominent and widespread uses coincided with the quality of the historical building. The museum design approach, which has changed in recent years, brings different perspectives to the adaptive reuse of historical buildings as museums. In this study, the interaction of the historical buildings having been used as museums with contemporary museology is discussed and evaluated through examples. The issues that need to be considered in the adaptive reuse of historical buildings are defined, the concept of museum and new museology approach are explained, and then the historical buildings that are functioned as museums are examined in terms of new museum understanding. Innovative approaches brought by contemporary museology to the function of historical buildings as museums are examined and evaluated through the example of Samsun City Museum and Panorama 1919 Museum.
