General design method for various integrated magnetics components in CDR
This paper investigates in detail the design procedures of an integrated magnetics (IM), blended with inductor and transformer functions. Comparison between IMs and coupled inductors in current handling abilities reveals that all of the IM design task can be substituted by the implementation of proper coupled inductors. A design flow-chart for the IM design tasks is then proposed following this result. The IM used in current-doubler rectifier (CDR) circuits is chosen as a representative of such a device for a case study which demonstrates the design procedures. The problem of how to select the proper magnetic core for IMs is also addressed based on our earlier works. The particular issue for IM winding cross-sectional-area optimization is carried out. A prototype following the design flow chart is constructed to verify the design procedures.
