Students’ attitude towards using a mobile learning management system: : A large, undergraduate Information Systems class
Higher education institutions need to deliver quality education to diverse students in increasingly larger classes. Mobile learning management systems are shown to offer benefits such as access to teaching and learning resources, regardless of time and location. This study analysed quantitative survey data from 179 third- year Information Systems students to assess their attitudes to using their institutional mobile application, iKamva. Data was collected via an online survey and were analysed using Partial Least Squares (PLS) to test the research model, based on the Technology Acceptance Model. Results indicated that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use positively influenced students’ attitude towards using the mobile application. However, this attitude towards using the mobile application did not translate into the actual usage of the iKamva mobile application as less than 25% of students used the tool. These findings indicate that despite the availability of the mobile learning management system, it does not necessarily translate into the usage thereof as it was found that students prefered using the electronic learning management system.
