It was aimed to find out the influence of index card match method to improve students’ writing ability of recount. The design of this study was pre-experimental design. The data were collected through recount test. They were distributed to 35 students in the second grade of SMPN 5 Garut that were selected to be the respondents of this study. The data from pre-test and post-test showed that the average of the students’ achievement in pre-test was 36.86 and the average of students’ achievement in post-test was 73.43. Then, the result of t-test showed that tobserved = 20.496 ≥ tcritical = 2.0423. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The result showed that there was influence in improvement students’ writing ability of recount through Index Card Match method.
