Such a comparison makes it possible to assess the progress made by the objective of competition policy, because of public intervention. The main objective of applying competition policy is to protect consumer welfare through sanctioning infringements of competition rules and discouraging future anti-competitive behaviour. Thus, it is possible to maintain equal competitive terms on product markets for the benefit of the final consumer.
