It possesses important strategic value for the power transmission of large power grids across regions. In view of the urgent lightning protection needs of the “Jiquan” Line, this paper completed the parameter design and prototype development of the first ±1100 kV UHV DC transmission line arrester in the world by means of theoretical calculation and simulation analysis. Through a full set of type tests, the excellent performance of the arrester has been verified. Based on the structural stress analysis of typical towers in the “Jiquan” Line, this paper completes the design of the installation scheme of the arrester, and proposes a supported bracket reinforced by the suspension composite insulator. This on-site installation method meets the long-term safe and stable operation requirements. Finally, this paper realized the trial operation of ±1100kV UHV DC transmission line arrester.
