Development of STEAM education program on climate change for science club activities
This study developed a STEAM program of exploring paleotemperature using fossil leaves to cultivate the literacy of climate change and relevant systematic thinking in middle- and high-school students through club activities. To develop the program, the demand, analysis of the education process and class objectives were established using the PDIE model. The class curriculum was designed in the stages of presenting the situation, establishing creative hypothesis, emotional experience and a new challenge. The developed program was verified through the validity test and the Delphi method and was supplemented through a pilot test. The results of the validity test yielded the CVR value of 0.90 and the program was proved valid on all evaluation items. By emphasising art-based activities of collecting, observing and sketching fossils, this program arouses interest and enjoyment in the class and, alongside with providing a stimulating intellectual learning environment, provides students with a valuable opportunity to learn in a creativity and personality.
