Bill Carter always took the time to encourage, mentor, and inspire newcomers to this field and this award honors and sustains this aspect of his legacy. The award is sponsored by IEEE Technical Committee on Dependable Computing and Fault Tolerance (TC-DC&FT) and IFIP Working Group on Dependable Computing and Fault Tolerance (WG 10.4). To be eligible for this award, a paper based on the student’s dissertation research must have been submitted to the DSN Conference (to either the DCCS or PDS track) as a regular paper, with the student as the first author, and nominated by their supervisor. Current and former graduate students are eligible until not more than two years past the completion of their dissertations.
