Comparison of Power Electronic Converters with Sliding Mode Control and Open Loop Control
The application of power electronic converters is rapidly increasing with the advancement of technology. Buck, Boost, Bidirectional dc-dc converters are widely used in renewable and energy storage systems, electric vehicle, microgrid etc. Optimal operation of these converters depend on its switching control. Controlling of a converter can be done by an open loop or a closed loop control. One such closed loop control is a Variable Structure Control (VSC). Sliding Mode control is a sub-category of a Variable Structure Control (VSC). This paper presents a comparison of the output voltage response of a buck and a boost converter having closed loop control in the form of sliding mode control and an open loop control in the form of constant frequency-variable duty, pulse firing in MATLAB Simulink.
