PENGGUNAAN ELLIPTICAL EDITING UNTUK MEMBANGUN SURPRISE DALAM EDITING FILM “BAJING LONCAT”

ABSTRACT            In writing a scenario, there are elements that can support development of the story, one of it is "surprise".  Scenario of "Bajing Loncat" has a potential surprise that can be presented through editing.  The surprise factor in the story can't be separated from the bridging set-up design of audience's expectations. Set-up and expectations are one unit formed as a formula for creation of a surprise.            The editor will apply the concept of elliptical editing to the storytelling structure of film "Bajing Loncat" to manipulate the storytelling and timing without corrupting the important information of the story. Elliptical editing applied in the story is not only manipulating time, besides The application of elliptical editing can actually have another impact, named by surprise.            The construction of the set-up for generating a surprise is applied to causality, action-reaction, and the emotional continuity that becomes a solid foundation in shaping audience expectations. Embodiment concept of elliptical editing is used in some potential scenes that emergence a surprise. The surprises that appear in the story have a various impact to the audience. Keywords: set-up, expectations, elliptical editing, surprise.  ABSTRAK                        Dalam penulisan skenario terdapat unsur-unsur yang dapat mendukung perkembangan cerita, salah satunya adalah surprise. Skenario film “Bajing Loncat” memiliki potensi surprise yang dapat dihadirkan melalui editing. Kemunculan surprise dalam cerita, tidak lepas dari rancangan set-up yang menjembatani ekspektasi penonton. Set-up dan ekspektasi merupakan satu kesatuan yang terbentuk sebagai formula atas terciptanya sebuah surprise.            Editor akan menerapkan konsep elliptical editing ke dalam struktur penceritaan film “Bajing Loncat” untuk memanipulasi runag dan waktu penceritaan tanpa mengurangi informasi penting dalam penceritaan. Elliptical editing yang diterapkan dalam cerita tidak hanya memanipulasi waktu saja, disamping itu penerapan elliptical editing justru dapat memunculkan dampak lain yaitu surprise.            Pembangunan set-up untuk memunculkan surprise diterapkan pada hubungan sebab akibat, aksi reaksi, dan kesinambungan emosi yang menjadi landasan kuat dalam membentuk ekspektasi penonton. Konsep perwujudan elliptical editing digunakan pada beberapa scene yang mengandung potensi kemunculan surprise. Surprise yang dimunculkan dalam cerita memiliki dampak yang berbeda-beda pada penonton. Kata kunci: set-up, ekspektasi, elliptical editing, surprise.
