The request for emergency contraception is a frequent presentation in general practice. Around 40% of pregnancies worldwide are estimated to be unplanned, and a significant proportion of unplanned pregnancies result in termination, leading to avoidable distress. Therefore, it is paramount that healthcare professionals understand the available methods of emergency contraception.
