His doctorate is in journalism and media Studies, focusing on social media and African electoral politics. He heads several research teams including: a three member team researching on the adoption of oral communication in museum documentation in Africa; and a six-member team researching on WhatsApp and Xenophobia in South Africa. Previously, he headed a South African team in a multi-country Project about media reporting on Gender-Based Violence. He has held numerous fellowships and grants.
