The makeup and density of intestinal microbiota can be influenced by diet and therefore, they play a major role in the development of obesity by regulating energy metabolism. Recent evidence, primarily from investigations from animal models, suggests that the gut microbiota affects nutrient acquisition and energy regulation. Gut microbiota regulates obesity by regulating energy absorption, central appetite, fat storage, chronic inflammation, and circadian rhythms. Several members of phylum Proteobacteria, were reported to be obesity-associated.
