It is based on the histopathological features of the tumours, such as the type of cells involved, the degree of differentiation and any malignant features. In addition to the WHO classification, other systems are used to classify salivary gland tumours. One such system is the Milan system, which is used to classify salivary gland tumours based on their cytological features.
