Principal diagnostic characters of the new subgenus, an illustrated redescription of <em>S. epistomalis</em>, and data on its distribution and host plant are presented. Abstract
A new subgenus Clypeostethasubgen. n. is established for the jewel beetle Sphenoptera epistomalis Obenberger, 1927 from Northwestern and Western Kazakhstan and northwestern Uzbekistan (the first record for the country). Principal diagnostic characters of the new subgenus, an illustrated redescription of S. epistomalis, and data on its distribution and host plant are presented.
