With the changes to laparoscopic and robotic-assisted routes, some urogynecologists started using delayed absorbable sutures while others continued using permanent sutures. The current data suggest no increased failures with delayed absorbable sutures. Given that the risk of suture exposure is almost eliminated with delayed absorbable sutures, it is reasonable to use delayed absorbable sutures in attaching the mesh to the vagina over permanent sutures.
