Acid suppressive therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Abstract: Gastrointestinal (GI) disorders range from intermittent heartburn to life-threatening GI hemorrhage. One of the most common GI disorders is gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which affects an estimated 19% of adults in North America. This article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of acid-suppressive therapy for patients with GERD as well as relevant nursing considerations.
