However, recipient–donor cell–cell interactions are incompletely understood. Each of these interactions may affect the survival and functionality of the donor cells and, ultimately, their efficacy as a treatment substrate. Additionally, recipient characteristics, such as the cytoarchitecture of the retina and immune status, may also impact the type and frequency of cell–cell interactions.
