Assessing manufacturing agility: an updated state-of-the-art and operational insights

Agility is a major concern for organizations across various sectors, as evidenced by the plethora of research works in this area. The concept of agility has resurfaced at the forefront due to recent transformations in the business sectors. This paper presents an updated state-of-the-art of agility assessment in manufacturing and explores how researchers and, to some extent practitioners, perceive the relationship between agility and resilience. It seeks to cut through the many methodologies and tools for assessing agility in manufacturing companies by conducting a systematic literature review. Through a qualitative and quantitative analyses of the literature, the paper provides valuable insights to practitioners and researchers into the state-of-the-art and future development to operationalize agility assessment.
