Discovery of displaced canines among adolescents in the mid-section of the maxillary and mandibular apical areas and their management.
It is highly recommended that a routine dental examination be a part of the dentist's service to his patients in his private office. And this should also be rendered annually by school dentists in both private and public schools. Emphasis should be done in counting the number of erupted permanent teeth in the oral cavity and the non-erupted ones as well. The latter is performed by thorough roentgenographic examination (panoramic). This procedure can establish the number, approximate size, location and the path of eruption of other permanent teeth, especially the late eruptors, the maxillary canines. Unnecessary surgical procedures and prolonged repositioning of displaced canines by orthodontic procedures should be avoided. Hence treatment and/or management of displaced teeth will be less expensive and the time spent for treatment is reduced.
