In this symposium, we explained etiology, prevention and the updated treatment for heart failure. In particular, the recent progress of pharmacological and cardiac implantable electronic device therapy has prolonged the survival of patients with heart failure. In addition, the treatment with ventricular assist device is now available in a candidate for heart transplantation in Hokkaido University Hospital.
