velopment of a new technique, called in vitro maturation (IVM), in which immature oozytes can be obtained without stimulation by exogenous gonadotropins, thereby avoiding the risk of an ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. The introduction of IVM in Germany in 2005 has revealed a pregnancy rate in young patients of around 15% per treatment cycle. Even though the pregnancy rate is lower than in regular IVF treatments, its success rate is acceptable in PCOS patients as the risk of developing an ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is avoided.
