TERRITORIALIDAD Y ASENTAMIENTO URBANO RURAL EN LA FRONTERA SUR DE BUENOS AIRES (SIGLO XIX): ITINERARIOS DE LOS "INDIOS AMIGOS" DE MAYCÁ Y CATRIEL

El trabajo constituye una síntesis de investigaciones interdisciplinarias en curso sobre las trayectorias comparadas de los linajes de los caciques Maycá y Catriel desde sus incorporaciones a la política del “negocio pacífico de indios”, en las décadas de 1820 y 1830, hasta la unificación del Estado en 1862. Se pone el foco en los patrones de asentamiento urbano y rural. Además, se indagan los cambios operados en la territorialidad indígena en virtud de su vinculación con el Estado y la sociedad criolla en la frontera sur de Buenos Aires, atendiendo a la agencia indígena, la prestación de servicio armado, el papel de las instituciones y los agentes intermedios dentro del contexto fronterizo bonaerense. Se destaca la diversidad de formas de acceso a la tierra y de derechos de propiedad, especialmente durante el período de “ordenamiento legal” de corte liberal post Caseros, y la proyección de estos procesos de raigambre decimonónica hasta nuestros días. Abstract This study constitutes a synthesis of interdisciplinary investigations in progress on the comparative trajectories of the lineages of the Maycá and Catriel chieftains since their incorporation into the policy of the “peaceful business of Indians” in the decades of 1820 and 1830 until the unification of the State in 1862. We focus on the urban and rural settlement patterns and the changes that have taken place in indigenous territoriality due to their relation to the State and Creole society on the southern frontier of Buenos Aires. In this sense, we attend to the indigenous agency, the provision of armed service, and the role of institutions and intermediate agents within the Buenos Aires frontier context. The diversity of forms of access to land and property rights stands out, especially during the “legal order” period of the post-Caseros liberal court and the projection of these processes of nineteenth-century roots to the present day.
