Furthermore, as their approach is thematic in nature and looks at architecture in the context of the political, social and religious factors that called it into being, it will be of great value not only to architectural historians, but also to historians in a range of disciplines — as well as to a wider readership. The book can be recommended unreservedly to anyone interested in the Carolingian period (and would merit perhaps an English language edition).
