Psychoeducational group satisfaction in an acute psychiatric hospital
ABSTRACT Acute psychiatric hospitals assist individuals in need of immediate crisis interventions. This exploratory study evaluates current psychoeducational group therapy in an acute psychiatric hospital. Patients were surveyed on satisfaction immediately after attending psychoeducational groups. Topics of the therapy groups included safety planning, coping with stress, positive self-talk, relapse prevention, spirituality, and creative expression. Results showed that overall, patients were highly satisfied with the psychoeducational groups offered with the spiritual group having the highest overall rating. Data from patients’ surveys revealed changes to be made that would improve group satisfaction. Further research on internal variables influencing satisfaction on psychoeducational groups is suggested by the researcher.
