EnglishAbstract In this article we will study the evolution of the contract of mandate in relation to its gratuitousness or valuable consideration in the thought of Andres Bello. To attain the purposes of this investigation, an analysis of the thought of Andres Bello, concretely his viewpoints on the matter as portrayed on his “Instituciones de derecho romano” and “Esplicaciones de derecho romano” is proven necessary. In said works, faithful to the civil law tradition, he stated that the contract of mandate was, in essence, gratuitous.
