Viaducto mixto en el acceso al Hospital Universitario Central de Asturias
The bridge is part of the new link between the AS-II highway and the Central University Hospital of Asturias It is a bridge with seven spans and a maximum span of 61.75 m in the main curved deck to which a secondary curved deck is incorporated with two spans and 48,00 meters maximum span length. The structure has four sections:
The first three spans of the main deck are composed by a steel box beam with ribs on each side and a concrete slab 17.65 meters wide.
The first two spans of the secondary deck are composed by a single curved steel box beam.
After the confluence of the slabs of the two decks, an area of variable width is developed until a constant section of 21.30 meters width is reached. In this zone a great transverse stiffness is provided by five steel bracing beams.
Finally, the structure continues with a constant width of 21.30 meters until the abutment with double steel box beam section.
The most singular aspects of the structural response of the bridge will be commented in the paper, such as the design of transverse ribs and bracing beams, and the transverse structural response in the area where the two decks are joined. The most significant construction aspects will also be mentioned.
