Sa Bayan ng Meycauayan (In the Town of Meycauayan) – the Quarries, the People and Their Church
The Meycauayan quarries are important sources of cut stones during the Colonial Period. Piedra de meycauayan became the building blocks of many historic structures in Luzon. This article sheds light into the relationship of the townsfolk of Meycauayan to their church, specifically their response in sustaining the church by renewing the deed of donation of quarries made by their forefathers. This will be done by examining a 1731 manuscript from the Archivo Franciscano Ibero-Oriental (AFIO) – a rare document in the vernacular that offers perspective from the natives rather than the colonizers. All these are framed within the historical development of the famed quarries.
