Deionized water as vase solution prolongs flower bud opening and vase life in carnation and rose through sustaining an improved water balance
prior to evaluation. These effects were related to improved water balance throughout vase life, owing to enhanced water uptake. Blocking microbial growth did not affect the noted differences among the three holding solution alternatives. By employing cut carnation and rose in combination with several postharvest scenarios, we conclude that deionized water as vase (cid:149)(cid:145)(cid:142)(cid:151)(cid:150)(cid:139)(cid:145)(cid:144)(cid:3) (cid:146)(cid:148)(cid:145)(cid:142)(cid:145)(cid:144)(cid:137)(cid:149)(cid:3) (cid:152)(cid:131)(cid:149)(cid:135)(cid:3) (cid:142)(cid:139)(cid:136)(cid:135)(cid:3) (cid:131)(cid:144)(cid:134)(cid:3) (cid:149)(cid:151)(cid:149)(cid:150)(cid:131)(cid:139)(cid:144)(cid:149)(cid:3) (cid:976)(cid:142)(cid:145)(cid:153)(cid:135)(cid:148)(cid:3) (cid:132)(cid:151)(cid:134)(cid:3) opening owing to improved water relations.

期刊介绍: eJHS publishes original research articles and reviews on significant plant science discoveries and new or modified methodologies and technologies with a broad international and cross-disciplinary interest in the scope of global horticulture. eJHS focus is on applied and fundamental aspects of the entire food value chain, ranging from breeding, production, processing, trading to retailing of horticultural crops and commodities in temperate and Mediterranean regions. In particular eJHS emphasizes integrated crop management strategies during the preharvest and postharvest stages, aiming at sustainably increasing the quantity and quality of horticultural products. The eJHS publishes peer-reviewed articles, reviews and special thematic issues in the following science areas: breeding and genetic resources; clonal (micro)propagation and seed physiology; cropping systems, including crop management practices; plant/fruit growth and development, including interactions with environments and organisms; plant protection and plant nutrition; irrigation and plant water relation; whole plant physiology and source/sink relation; urban horticulture/protected cultivation; fruit ripening and product quality; storage technologies, including postharvest disorders; food processing technologies/horticultural engineering; marketing/economics; education and consultancy; consumer sciences.
