Discursive ascriptions and their effects on subjective perceptions are currently discussed in the context of social geography. An analytical approach to discourse specific subjectivities has thereby been pointed out as a key challenge. Accordingly, this article develops a methodical approach for an analysis of discourse specific subjectivities based on conceptual metaphors. The analytical potentials are illustrated using the example of civic engagement which is addressed as a key term in current rural development policies.
