Learning mathematicsis delivered by means of lecture for present a formula or a mathematical concepts that will be used to work on the problems. Implementation of the learning occurred in Elementary School 3 Tenggeles Mejobo Kudus. The students always to memorize and use mathematical formulas and are less involved in problem solving activities. Implementation of learning mathematics in 3 Tenggeles Elementary School caused students rarely train there problem solving ability. Based on these problems researchers conducted a study using problem-based learning model. The purpose of this study is to determine the increase in the problem solving ability by applying the problem-based learning model material fraction in 3 Tenggeles Elementary School academicyear 2013/2014.
This research is a classroom action researchconsisting of two cycles. Each cycle consists of, (1) planning, (2) acting and observing, (3) and reflecting. Data collection techniques such as interviews, observation, tests, and documentation. Research instruments such as interview guides, observation, and tests. The data obtained in this study, is analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively.
The first cycle of problem solving skills to obtain an average value of 63,17 with a percentage of completeness 65,22% mastery increased in the second cycle to obtain an average value of 75,13 with 86,96% presentate completeness. Student learning activities in problem solving through problem-based learning model cycle I gained an average score of 2,56 with good qualifications, increased in the second cycle which gained an average score of 3,02 with good qualifications. Management skills of the teacher in the learning of mathematics by applying the model of problem-based learning has increased in the first cycle to the second cycle, which is an average score of 2,82 with a good qualification in the first cycle increased to 3,11 with good qualifications in the second cycle.
The conclusions in this research is the application of problem-based learning model at a material fraction can improve students' mathematical problem solving fourth grade of 3 Tenggeles Elementary School, student learning activities fourth grade of3 Tenggeles Elementary School in problem solving through problem-based learning model, as well as the skills of teachers in teaching mathematics.
Researcher suggest that the implementation of learning mathematics in elementary school should involve students actively to solve the problem. The teachers can apply problem-based learning model to improve students' problem solving ability. Beside that, to further researchers can develop a model study using problem-based learning and teach steps of problem solving so students understanding of problem solving process.
