A new mayfly species Sparsorythus chitturensis sp. nov. is described from Kerala, southern India based on nymphal characters. The new species is differentiated from all other known Oriental species by the following combination of characters: (i) segment III of labial palp blunt at apex; (ii) hypopharyngeal lingua is not divided by a rill; and (iii) wing pads reaching the middle of abdominal segment II of final instar larvae.
