Real Time Analysis of VFT for Asynchronous Power Flow Control using Typhoon HIL
Variable Frequency Transformer (VFT) is identified as a flexible AC link, controllable, bidirectional transmission device used for combining two asynchronous power systems. It is the substitute for the power electronic devices used for interfacing. The construction of VFT consists of two power systems connected to doubly fed rotary induction machine from the stator and the rotor sides respectively. The torque given to the induction machine plays a crucial role in power flow. VFT’s simulated model is used here in this paper in order to control the power flow between asynchronous power systems which are connected to each other. Also to perform various study on power flow through asynchronous power systems VFT’s simulation model with real time simulation through Typhoon HIL Simulator and its control system has been developed. The results obtained are compared with the results obtained by MATLAB/Simulink.
