Indoor tracking of human movements using UWB technology for motion capture
This paper presents a study of 3D localisation of body-worn sensors using Ultra Wideband technology. Two different sensor locations are considered; one near the elbow and one on the chest. A comparative study is made between both the sensors in terms of accuracy obtained in estimation of unknown coordinates. Results show that accuracy in estimation of location of the sensor depends on the position it is placed on the human body, configuration of the base stations and the propagation phenomenon in the indoor environment in which localisation is taking place. The average accuracy in 3D localisation is around 2 to 3 cm for sensor placed on the elbow and 2.5 to 4 cm for the sensor placed on the chest.
