It belongs to a larger group of paratracheal air collections (PTACs). It can be congenital or acquired, single or multiple. It is usually asymptomatic but can lead to symptoms such as chronic cough and repeated upper respiratory tract infections. Chronic cough can also cause increased intraluminal pressure which can then lead to development of diverticulum.
