As known the traditional cascaded multilevel inverter consists of many number of dc sources. With the increase in switching frequency and levels of the inverter the switching losses increase. Thus this project aims in reducing the number of DC sources and also the switches that are used for the process of generation of a five level output from that of a traditional isolated cascaded multilevel inverter using the concept of common arm.This deals with an evolutionary algorithm based technique to eliminate the harmonics on a common arm three phase transformer multilevel inverter. This approach utilizes genetic algorithm as the optimization technique. In this inverter topology, the number of switches and transformers are reduced. The harmonics generated by the switching of the inverters is eliminated by GA algorithm.
