Concerning the genus Carabus Linnaeus, 1758, a recently published molecular phylogeny shows that the Himalayan subgenus Meganebrius Kraatz, 1895, is polyphyletic and corresponds to two isolated clades of different origin. A detailed and illustrated description is given for the subgenus Morvanicarabus Deuve & Schmidt, 2023, recently created to include Carabus alanstivelli Morvan, 1981, and C. scheibei Eidam, 1937. In the subgenus Meganebrius, a new species is described, C. (Meganebrius) heterocostatus n. sp., and three new subspecies: C. (M.) heterocostatus pseudarunensis n. ssp., C. (M.) tuberculipennis sprecherae n. ssp. and C. (M.) tuberculipennis bhairavkundensis n. ssp. A taxon from Central Nepal, C.
