A Survey of Foot-Rot Disease of Wheat in Madhya Pradesh
Abstract Survey of the foot rot disease of wheat was conducted in Gwalior, Shivpuri, Chhatarpur and Tikamgarh districts of Madhya Pradesh during 1965. Most prevalent causal fungus was found to be Sclerotium rolfsii. Samples were studied for symptomatology. The disease was observed in severe form under rainfed conditions but reduced under irrigation. It was negligible under irrigated conditions with the use of nitrogenous fertilizer. Hy 65 was more tolerant than local red Kathia or any other local mixture of wheat. Tentatively it was concluded that the disease can be controlled by practising frequent irrigations, application of nitrogenous fertilizer and by using some improved varieties.
