According to the Portal to the Flora of Italy, this entity was reported for Piedmont based on erroneous records. Nevertheless, during a wide herbarium survey on the subseries Eleocharis, several old and recent specimens collected in Piedmont have been identified as Eleocharis mamillata subsp. austriaca.
