LITERARY REVIEW is a large-scale national academic journal of literary research and theoretical criticism sponsored by the Institute of Literature of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, which was originally called Literary Research, prepared in the second half of 1956, and founded on March 12, 1957. The journal was suspended in June 1966 and resumed publication in January 1978 until now.
Since its inception, LITERARY REVIEW has adhered to the tenet of ‘blossoming of a hundred flowers and a hundred schools of thought’, insisted on the guidance of Marxist theory, paid close attention to the reality, grasped the pulse of the times, paid attention to the professional characteristics, published the long-term and specialised research results of literary researchers in China using a large part of the journal, paid attention to the major issues in the history and theory of literature, and paid attention to the positive issues in the history and theory of literature, as well as to the major issues in the history of literature. It focuses on professional features, publishes the long-term and specialised research results of national literary researchers at a large scale, pays attention to major issues in literary history and theory, actively promotes the study of contemporary literature, sums up the experience of Chinese literature, and supports young scholars in an unconventional manner, thus forming a distinctive feature of the journal.

《文学评论》是由中国社会科学院主管，文学研究所主办的全国性文学研究和理论批评的大型学术刊物。《文学评论》原名《文学研究》，1956年下半年筹办，1957年3月12日创刊。1959年2月改名为《文学评论》，由季刊改为双月刊。1966年6月起停刊，1978年1月复刊至今。自创刊以来，《文学评论》坚持“百花齐放，百家争鸣”的办刊宗旨，坚持马克思主义理论指导，密切关注现实，把握时代脉搏，注重专业特点，以较大的篇幅发表全国文学研究者长期的专门的研究成果，关注文学历史和文学理论上的重大问题，积极推进当代文学研究，总结中国文学经验，不拘一格扶持青年学人，形成了鲜明的办刊特色。
近年来，《文学评论》更加重视发挥刊物的导向性作用，为党和国家工作大局服务，重点建设“马克思主义文艺理论”专栏，多方面推进中国文学“三大体系”建设，重视中华优秀传统文化的创造性转化和创新性发展，大力推动文学研究的理论建构和方法更新，积极引领学术潮流，关注前沿问题，拓展文学研究的视野与边界。
