Abstract

A conical spiral transmission line-based sensor (CSTLS) is introduced to measure the water holdup in oil-water two-phase flows. The theoretical model of the transmission line is given to describe the electromagnetic wave propagation on the CSTLS. Numerical simulations and experimental results show the water holdup of the measured fluid is approximately linearly proportional to the phase shift of the signals detected by sensors. The detection resolution is up to 3% in the whole range of water holdup from 0% to 100%.
