Abstract

Assessing the consequences of emerging technological concepts on human existence is a challenge that requires unconventional approaches. Science Fiction Prototyping is a methodology that builds on the art of telling stories about our future. Since 2017, we have been using Science Fiction Prototyping to develop an extended approach we call immersive SciFi Prototyping. Immersive SciFi Prototyping features multilinear Virtual Reality (VR) scenarios in order to promote the exchange between scientists and the broad public on the consequences of Emerging Technologies. The resulting discourse will bring together scientists, decision makers and laypeople who can discuss opportunities and risks of Emerging Technologies based on their immersive experiences.
