Abstract
In India, ethylene glycol poisoning is fairly common. Glycolic acid and oxalic acid, two of its toxic metabolites, are primarily responsible for its adverse effects. A 42-year-old man who had consumed ethylene glycol arrived at our hospital with gastritis and central nervous system involvement. In the case report, oral ethyl alcohol was used to treat ethylene glycol poisoning instead of the recommended intravenous ethyl alcohol and fomepizole, which are only available in a few Indian states. Due to the potential for long-term complications or even death, ethylene glycol poisoning calls for a high level of clinical suspicion, focused investigations, and prompt treatment.
