Abstract
99mTc pertechnetate scan: The pertechnetate (TcO4) ion in technetium (Tc) pertechnetate binds to plasma proteins, quickly moves into the extra-cellular space and distributes itself like the chloride (Cl-) ion in various organs except the normal brain because of the blood brain barrier (BBB).
