Research institutes, universities, libraries, and other organizations take part in editing the national versions of the thesaurus. The selection of national equivalents to the English terms of the thesaurus is carried out using an interdisciplinary approach based on the cooperation of specialists in various fields of knowledge. In order to provide a consistent, unified approach to the selection of concepts and terms, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has created general guidelines for the AGROVOC editors.
