Abstract

The paper presents the possibility to use a fault current differential circuit breaker for overvoltage protection. Using voltage threshold semiconductor devices, Zener diodes, the overvoltage that occurs in low voltage circuits induces a current imbalance in the electromagnetic trigger of the differential protection circuit breaker (MID) and as a result the differential built-in protection disconnects the powercircuit.
