Abstract

The language of witnesses to history. A report from Warmia Summary The author analizes characteristic features of language and style in stories about plebiscite in Warmia, Mazuria and Powiśle in 1920. Narrations are chronological and consistent. Stories are full of geographic names, historically important persons and situations. Narrators often use first personal singular or plural to highlight their identification with Poland. They also use words marked witch emotions. When they speak about events concerning other people they use third person plural and report style.
