Simulations were carried out on three areas hydro-thermal power system composed by reheat thermal power plant in the first area and hydro power plants in the second and third area. For more realistic study, the effects of Generation Rate Constraint (GRC), and Governor Dead-Band (GDB) have been considered. Then, the Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) regulator is considered in all areas. The optimal controller settings are tuned using a powerful optimisation algorithm known as Grasshopper optimization Algorithm (GOA) by evaluating the Integral of the Squared Error (ISE). The dynamic responses with and without HVDC link were compared. The robustness of this system has been tested alongside Parametric Variations (PVs).
