Abstract

Expansive clayey soils cause serious problems to the building structures constructed over them which is due to the shrink-swell behavior of soil. However, in many cases this type of soil behavior causes significant damages to structures worldwide. In recent years the research on distress due to soil behavior has been analyzed using software and a very few analyses were done for the past decades. Hence in this study a distressed building is identified and analyzed using the software. In this paper the active cracks in distressed building are analyzed with respect to crack width, crack orientation, and crack intensity into a relation physical condition with the building systems as the alternatives. It is also a new method of evaluating and analyzing the progression of cracks in the building.
