Aquaculture Field School to Promote Farmer-to-Farmer Extension

Abstract

The article reviews Aquaculture field school (AFS) as an innovative way of providing extension services to farmers. It discusses growth and genesis of farmer field school (FFS) methodology and its spread to over 75 countries. FFS approach adopted in major fisheries development projects; its impact and lessons learnt from establishing two AFS by the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar is reviewed. Though FFS in fisheries projects is not adopted widely, its impact has been quite encouraging. The authors argue for replication of AFS and thereby promote farmer to farmer extension.
